A remaining nail
A remaining nail
A look at the pillbox shows that the external part was cast in wood made to look like a shed, the outside was built and wooded formers used on the inside then the concrete poured. The outside shed was left in place and over the years rotted away what you see here is the remaining wood left in place. More proof here can be seen with a nail that had not been driven completely home and is caught in the concrete.
