SO3797 : Old mine ventilation shaft
taken 14 years ago, near to Bridges, Shropshire, England

Old mine ventilation shaft
One of the many relics from the mining industry that once worked this area.

Horrified to find that you have (presumably) been fooled by a howler in my book Lead Copper and Barytes Mines of Shropshire into believing that the apparent shaft cap in the photo below is mining related. It was the top of a small reservoir and was replaced a few years ago with a lower structure. My only excuse is that it adjoins a small trial mine and someone told me that that was what it was and I never checked the information!. A reprint is due shortly with the howler removed.
