William Henry Walk

William Henry Walk was named after William Henry who was Wandsworth Council's Borough Engineer from 1986 to 1988. He died of cancer in 1988 aged 45. He started working for Wandsworth in 1971 as a Senior Engineer. A year later, he became Principal Engineer with responsibility for highway planning and in 1975 was made Chief Engineer in transportation. He became Assistant Director in 1982 and was promoted to Borough Engineer in 1986.

It has not been usual Council practice for roads to be named after councillors or employees since the 1960s, therefore William Henry must have been held in very high esteem to be given such an honour.
