Wood ant nest, Vinney Ridge Inclosure, New Forest
There were several of these wood ant nests beneath the pines to the north of the track that leads out of the Vinney Ridge Inclosure towards Brinken Wood. The nest provides protection from predators and the elements, as well as a steady environment in which to rear eggs and pupae.
