Down empties train approaching Bedlington Station
Down empties train approaching Bedlington Station
View SE, towards Newsham, Tynemouth, North Shields and Newcastle; ex-North Eastern (Blyth & Tyne section). This coal traffic in the South Northumberland (Ashington) area was a late vestige of steam locomotive working (into 1967). The ex-NE J27 0-6-0, No. 65811, survived until 9/67 - and I had ridden on it in 1944.
