Sheffield : Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
Sheffield : Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
Built by Davy Brothers of Sheffield, and installed in 1855, the single cylinder horizontal steam engine at Abbeydale provided an additional source of power to the works when water levels fell too low to run the water wheels. It could operate the grinding machinery, but not the Tilt Forge. The engine has a 38 cm (15 inch) cylinder and 61 cm (24 inch) stroke.
