Sheffield : Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
The office work at Abbeydale was carried out in the Counting House, which gained its name from accounting for piece-work done on the site: the workmen were paid here. Two people worked in the office, the works foreman and his clerk.

The original Counting House was one of three buildings occupying the site in 1786, when Martin Goddard's rental was described as a "dam etc and scythe works, a tilt and counting house etc". This original building was next to the Grinding Hull and adjoining the Workmen's Cottages. It was later used as a warehouse for crown scythes, when the present Counting House was built in the 1830s.

The office has been restored to the 1920s period, just before the site was finally vacated.
