SD4476 : The beach at Far Arnside

taken 15 years ago, near to Silverdale, Lancashire, England

The beach at Far Arnside
The beach at Far Arnside
Drastic erosion of the salt marsh turf has uncovered underlying limestone rocks. This is stained a prominent orange-yellow colour - possibly some mineral (iron?) leached from the overlying soil or turf. It will probably fade fairly quickly but provides a splash of colour on a grey evening. The dark ridge beyond is Park Point beyond which is the inner Kent estuary with Grange-over-Sands visible on the far shore.
