Alexandra Park was officially opened on June 26 1882 by the Prince and Princess of Wales (Princess Alexandra). Alexandra Park achieved the prestigious Green Flag Award for the fourth year running in 2008. As a Grade II Park of Historic Interest, Alexandra Park has also achieved the coveted Green Heritage Award. A three-year restoration programme, financed through the Heritage Lottery Fund, is now complete. £3.464m has been spent restoring buildings and planting areas, reconstructing paths, providing new railings, a fantastic new playground and much more.
