The boathouse at Osterley
This is not a conventional boathouse, but an unusual arrangement whereby a boat would be taken (punted or rowed?) under the earth mound in the photo, and visitors to the estate could walk down the steps to board the boat that would then take them back out onto the lake and up to the main house. It is currently disused but the National Trust is considering restoring it.

Osterley is a country estate near Hounslow in West London. The house dates from Tudor times but was converted and extended in the late 18th century by Robert Adam for the Child banking family. It was given to the National Trust in 1949.
