Knockshinnoch Lagoons
This area is a nature reserve near New Cumnock, managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. It was created from an old coal shale bing, and now provides several lagoons and marshy areas. The main part of the old bing is being re-vegetated by birch, willow and rowan. Some bare spoil waste still remains. It's an interesting place to visit. I was impressed by the lack of litter and damage that's so often found in our unmanned wild spaces.
