Brighton marathon, approaching the finish
Brighton marathon, approaching the finish
Madeira Drive in Brighton runs level with the beach. It is often used for special events. On the day this photo was taken, it was being used as the finish of the 2011 Brighton Marathon, a running race on the streets of Brighton and Hove.

This photo was taken from Marine Parade, which is the route taken by the coast road east out of Brighton. It is parallel with Madeira Drive, but rises to a higher level. To the right of the picture is the intermediate level walkway which is above Madeira Drive but below Marine Parade.

Brighton's Palace Pier extends outwards into the sea from the clock tower towards the top of the image. Further in the distance is the ruin of Brighton's West Pier.
