Looking upstream from SJ8398 : Trinity Bridge. Ahead is Blackfriars Bridge and in the distance, SJ8398 : Manchester Cathedral. To the left, is the newly regenerated Chapel Wharf area of Salford with its piazza and riverside walks. On right (the Manchester side of the river) the buildings are mainly 1960s office blocks backing directly on to the river although a couple have been converted into apartments complete with balconies overlooking the river.
River Irwell

The River Irwell rises on the Rossendale hills north of Bacup and flows south for 39 miles before joining the River Mersey west of Manchester. It was a very important river in the development of industry, during the Industrial revolution, in Lancashire.
