Fyne Court was the country estate of the Crosse family, most notably the pioneering electrical scientist Andrew Crosse (1784-1855) LinkExternal link . The mansion burnt down in 1894, and only a few rooms and outbuildings survived. The estate was acquired by the National Trust in 1967.
The former landscaped gardens became a nature reserve, which was managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust for many years until their lease ended in 2009.
