SO2776 : Disused quarry

taken 8 years ago, near to Purlogue, Shropshire, Great Britain

Disused quarry
Disused quarry
Almost every farm used to have a small quarry where stone was obtained for local purposes. This quarry was perched on the shoulder of the hill adjacent to the bridleway to the upland pastures and Cwm-sanaham Hill. The stone is probably the Silurian Clun Forest Formation, which are inter-bedded sandstones and mudstones. Unfortunately, this area is not included in the BGS geological map viewer web site.
