Motte at Woodgarston Farm
Motte at Woodgarston Farm
This is known as Castle of the Wood, a timber castle. It may be one that was stormed in 1147. The ditch surrounding the motte is still clearly visible despite mature trees growing in it. It is 43 yards in diameter and 19 feet from bottom of ditch to rampart. There is some evidence of a building and it is a scheduled monument number 236491.
