TQ0763 : Waterloo - Portsmouth electric express passing Weybridge"The leading 4 COR unit (no. 3101) was the very first of its type entering service in 30th January 1937. Badly damaged by a V1 blast at Wimbledon Park on 29th June 1944, the leading motorcoach (no.11244) was a replacement from 4 BUF unit 3080 (which had also been damaged by enemy action early in 1944). Unit no.3101 was withdrawn 1st January 1972 and moved to T. W. Ward Ltd (Beighton) for scrapping on 13th April 1972."
TQ0763 : Up Ilfracombe portion of Atlantic Coast Express rushing through Weybridge, 1953"This engine entered traffic on 29th October 1941 as No. 21C4 and was named at Charing Cross station on 1st January 1942 by the Chairman of Cunard White Star. Fittingly on 16th October 1946 it hauled a Pullman special to Southampton for the first sailing of the 'Queen Elizabeth'. Under BR it was renumbered 35004 in April 1948 and became one of the first to be rebuilt (outshopped 5th July 1957). Following minor wheelslip damage it was withdrawn on 29th October 1965 and scrapped at Eastleigh Works in February 1966. However, its premature demise led to the creation of the Merchant Navy Preservation Society."
