Westmeston Bostall
Westmeston Bostall
View from the top of Westmeston Bostall looking towards Ditchling Beacon. Bostalls are old trackways with a gentle slope enabling oxen and horses to draw heavy loads up some of the steeper slopes along the Sussex hills. The name is probably derived from 'beorg' meaning hill and 'stig' a path. On this day the bostall was alive with spring butterflies, and later in the year orchids and other summer flowers are abundant.
