View from the castle mound down to the former vicarage. The castle mound was the site of a medieval tower house, one of two in Alnham, and first mentioned in 1405 when it was surrendered to royal troops. It is thought to have been ruined by the end of the C16th. Link
NT9910 : Alnham War Memorial Hall The Alnham War Memorial Hall served as YHA's first Youth Hostel in the tiny village, from 1932 to 1943. It was replaced in 1944 by the nearby old Vicarage of about 1830, part of which includes a pele tower dating back to 1416 - see image NT9910 : The Vicar’s Pele, Alnham.
