The Fleming Cairn on Rannoch Moor
The Fleming Cairn on Rannoch Moor
The 2m high cairn on the right is on the west side of the West Highland Way near its highest point on Rannoch Moor at Gualann Laith Ghiubhais. It was constructed in memory of Peter Fleming, brother of James Bond author Ian Fleming, who died of a heart attack in this area on 18th August 1971. Apparently, ĎAuthor, Soldier and Travellerí was originally inscribed on the cairn, but I didnít see any inscription when I was there. Some snow still lingers on Meall Š Bhuiridh in the background. For a closer view of the cairn, see NN2851 : The Fleming Cairn on Rannoch Moor. My thanks to Hamish Brown for alerting me to the existence of the cairn and to the West Highland Way official guide as a source of some information.
