Rough seas, Moelfre, Anglesey
On this north east coast of the island many ships have foundered. A monument near this spot remembers the Royal Charter, a sailing cutter, built in 1856. On 26th August the ship left Melbourne, Australia, with 350 passengers and a cargo of wool, and gold.

On 25th October she rounded Holyhead on the last leg to Liverpool; she ran into hurricane force winds. Sails were lowered and the anchors dropped. The two steam engines were unable to stop the ship running onto the rocks. 450 lives were lost.
