Kibworth Postmill - Trestle
This large post is what the mill pivots on. It was dated to the 14th century and came from another postmill. The rest of the machinery/structure is 1711 or later.
Kibworth Postmill

Kibworth postmill is the last survivor of the quaint Leicestershire postmills. The central trestle is from an earlier mill on another site, it dates from the 14th C. The buck has a carving dating it to around 1711. Inside and out is a mix of old and new technology, there were two cloth (common) sails and two spring sails. The miller turned the mill into the wind by hand. Inside are two pairs of stones, one for animal feed and one for flour. Both are turned via a large wheel which runs the stone nuts. A 19th C addition is the iron governors, these regulate the coarseness of the flour. Also squeezed inside is a flour dresser. Having been in the hands of Merton College for many years it passed onto the Society for the Protection of Ancient buildings. It currently opens twice a year.

Mills Open Weekend 2011

National Mills Weekend is an annual celebration of the UK's milling heritage. The event is organised by the Mills Section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
The 2011 dates were the 14th and 15th May. Over 450 buildings were open to visitors meaning many to choose from. They ranged from fully working wind and water mills to under restoration or rarely open buildings.
