Furness Abbey: railway tunnel
When the railway came in 1846 Furness Abbey narrowly escaped destruction. Luckily the railway was diverted slightly to the east which involved the construction of a short tunnel. This is visible in this picture. The abbey ruins themselves are largely hidden by the trees on the right of the picture.
