Crofter's cottage, Ryedale Folk Museum, Hutton-le-Hole
This is a typical village dwelling of the 13C to 16C, built based on archaeological and historical evidence. It has one room that houses both people and livestock, and had an open fire in the centre with smoke escaping through the unglazed windows and the thatched roof. The garden is planted with fruit, vegetables and herbs in use during medieval times.
