Point of Ayr lighthouse
Not much is left of the causeway to the right - the railings have disappeared and all that remains is a few concrete 'sleepers'. Large blocks of stone are scattered at the shoreward end.
The lighthouse was built in the late 18th century to mark the entrance to the Dee estuary and its light shone to the north and west only. Control passed to Trinity House from the Point of Ayr Lighthouse Trustees in 1819 and some rebuilding took place subsequently. (RCAHMW reference 34231)
