Covenanters' Memorial, Grassmarket
Memorial from 1937 to the Covenanters who died on the gallows in the Grassmarket during the reigns of Charles II and James VII. The legend reads, "Many Martyrs and Covenanters died for the Protestant Faith on this spot."
Grassmarket

Grassmarket is the site of an old market square below Edinburgh Castle. From the 15th to 20th centuries a market was held here, as were public executions. The area has recently been redeveloped and is mainly pedestrianised. Cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants predominate.
