Approaching the line of the Military Road, B6318 (built on the line of Hadrian's Wall in the mid-C18th). Across the junction, a minor road passes the small hamlet of Rudchester (the site of the Roman fort, Vindolanda) heading for Wylam. This was only a farm access road prior to the building of the new A69 bypass to the south NZ1167 : A69 near Heddon-on-the-Wall
