The square received a major makeover at the end of 2010, removing a raised platform which had been built in the 1950s to prevent car parking, and a narrow cobbled lane. A wide square, "for visitors, congregation and events", adjacent to the north door of the Cathedral has been created surrounded by narrower raised beds incorporating seating. The square is decorated with a star in lighter paving. It is part of a £3m, five-year programme to reinvigorate the cathedral Link
