NZ1067 : Footbridge over the March Burn

taken 13 years ago, near to Horsley, Northumberland, England

Footbridge over the March Burn
Footbridge over the March Burn
A footbridge on Hadrian's Wall National Trail crossing the March Burn west of Rudchester. The bridge carries the Military Road, built on the line of Hadrian's Wall. The burn probably originally passed below the Wall in a Roman culvert but nothing of this remains today. The 1:25000 OS Map shows a 'hydraulic ram' at this location. It is possible that this is located in a chamber next to the bridge (on the east side of the burn, behind the tree in the photo) but the existing vegetation made it hard to reach.
