At the Rose Bowl (15)
This is one of a series of photos taken on the fourth day of the first ever Test Match at The Rose Bowl.

About 4:25 the sky got very dark and although it did not rain the umpires consulted and out came the light meters. In previous years they would have led the players from the field amidst boos from the crowd. But today they ordered the lights to be switched on and, to cheers from the crowd, we continued the match under floodlights. Even when the sun came out half an hour later the floodlights remained on until close of play.
Rose Bowl first test match
This is one of a series of photos taken on the fourth day of the first ever Test Match at The Rose Bowl.

A Test Match is a five-day, two innings per side, cricket match between any pair of the ten leading cricket-playing countries in the world. It is generally regarded as the top most form of the game.

In the late 1990s Hampshire Cricket Club invested in developing this state of the art new ground with a view to hosting international matches. After a decade of lobbying and waiting, the first test match at the Rose Bowl, between England and Sri Lanka, took place from 16th to 20th June 2011. Unfortunately it suffered frequent interruption from rain although this day, the fourth, saw uninterrupted play just. Although England generally held the upper hand for the first four days the Sri Lankans put up a rearguard action at the end, which, combined with the loss of playing time to the weather, resulted in the match being drawn.
