Founded in 1991, by Ted Tuppen. Enterprise Inns is a leased and tenanted pub company, and with over 7000 pubs is the second largest in the UK after Punch Taverns.

It began by acquiring 368 pubs from the Bass Brewery, with further acquisitions including former Whitbread pubs.

Discussion on TR0033

This grid square (or one closeby) was the first to be mapped by the Ordnance Survey.

In 1784, French and British Astronomers had an argument over the longitute of the Greenwich and Paris observatories. The argument was settled by measuring the positions by triangulation from the two observatories, and Hamstreet lies very close to one of the triangulation points.

The square featured on a set of stamps in 1991 celebrating 200 years of Ordnance Survey.
The 24pence stamp depicting the 1816 OS map, 28p the 1906 map, 33p from 1959 and 39p the current 1991 map.

The BBC's Countryfile programme did a piece on Hamstreet, presented by John Craven, around the same time.

Since 1994 Hamstreet is twinned with Therouanne in France.
