The giant memorial to Lord Collingwood (LinkExternal link ), Nelson's second-in-command at Trafalgar, who completed the victory after Nelson was killed.

Erected in 1845, the huge statue dominates the entrance to the Tyne estuary. It is seen here from the castle on Pen Bal Crag. The monument is Grade II*-listed (Historic England List Entry Number: 1355011 LinkExternal link ).
