Magdalen Hill Down
The down is held on a long lease by Butterfly Conservation as a nature reserve. It has never been ploughed and is mown by sheep, to preserve the rich variety of wild flowers upon which the butterflies live. There are thirty species of butterfly here, including Brown Argus, Green Hairstreaks and Chalkhill Blues.
