From the east you have a clear unobstructed view of Tewkesbury Abbey. The abbey dates from 1087 and was consecrated in 1121; it is larger than some English cathedrals. It is built in a Norman or Romanesque style. The tower is the largest Romanesque tower in existence. At the time of the dissolution of the monasteries the abbey was purchased by the parishioners for £453, and became a parish church.
