Braided trackway
Braided trackway
One hollow track can be seen receding into the distance from near the lower-right corner of the image, but parts of two more tracks, parallel to that one, can be seen, one on either side.

Here, a track, related to the limestone industry that once flourished in this area, splits into a braid of tracks running SW-NE. For further details, and for other sections of track nearby, see NS4379 : Ancient trackway and NS4479 : Ancient trackway; these are all part of a single extended network.

For a view in the opposite direction, see NS4379 : Braided trackway.

The River Clyde can be seen in the distance.
Network of old limestone industry tracks
A very extensive network of ancient tracks on the moors in West Dunbartonshire links old quarries, ruined lime-kilns, and other sites connected with the local limestone-burning industry, which flourished in the 18th century. See LinkExternal link for a Geograph article about the network, and LinkExternal link for an annotated satellite view of it.
