Charleville Castle, Tullamore
Charleville Castle, Tullamore
Currently undergoing restoration under the auspices of the Charleville Castle Heritage Trust, this magnificent Gothic Revival castle was designed in 1798 by Francis Johnston, one of Ireland's leading architects at the time. It was commissioned by Charles William Bury, Earl of Charleville, who built it between 1798 and 1810. It enjoys a superb setting within an ancient oak forest that includes a 700 year old specimen in the grounds, reputed to be the oldest in the world.
