Rams Gill below Kirkcarrion
Rams Gill below Kirkcarrion
Rams Gill is a dry valley which runs diagonally right to left on the slopes below the copse of Kirkcarrion NY9323 : Kirkcarrion from the north.
Old maps show a large reservoir in this region fed by an aqueduct running along the contour of the slope from the west, above and parallel to the one photographed below NY9424 : Remains of former water channel along Crossthwaite Common.
The mole catcher has displayed his work on the wire fence. Apparently this was traditionally done to provide the landowner with a tally for his payment or at least to prove his value, not to frighten or deter the live moles on the surrounding ground who are not noted for their eyesight
