In the care of the National Trust. The ground floor is currently open for visitors.
This mansion was built in 1840-7 for Dr James Dawson, a retired surgeon from Liverpool, using his wife's money. According to Beatrix Potter, the architect J.J. Lightfoot, killed himself with drinking before the house was finished.
