Minefield Control Tower
Minefield Control Tower
This is a minefield control tower situated on a hillside south of Oban, Argyll. The site overlooks the Sound of Kerrera which during the Second World War was a position where convoys gathered before setting off to the USA. It appears that there was a minefield in the Sound located so as to protect the gathering convoys. Should enemy surface or underwater forces approach the area from the south then the minefield would be triggered from the control tower.
