taken 15 years ago, 3 km from Aberfoyle, Stirling, Scotland

Lichen on Stone Post
Lichen on Stone Post
Xanthoria parietina. The lichen's growth at the top of this stone is perhaps evidence of its use by birds as a perch. The lichen likes rocks and trees enriched by nitrogen from bird droppings.
