Brenkley Lane Surface Mine
Opencast coal mine operated by Banks Mining Group situated between Brenkley Lane and the Ponteland Road. The mining started in Summer 2010 with excavated material transported by dumper truck under the new Ponteland Road bridge to the north NZ2075 : Bridge taking Ponteland Road over opencast mine underpass to be used as infill for the Delhi site, north of the Ponteland Road adjacent to Blagdon Park, which has ceased working coal NZ2176 : Blagdon Opencast
Coal is taken by the same route for processing and onward road transport. Gradually the site will be extended to the east with worked out areas in-filled to enable diversion of a stream which crosses the site.
