The Riverside: a County debut
Two young opening batsmen, Sam Kelsall and Karl Turner, made their County Championship debuts for Nottinghamshire against Durham in August 2011. Here the diminutive 18-year-old Kelsall lets the first ball of the Notts innings, bowled by Callum Thorp, go by outside the off stump. The pair took the score to 21, at which point four wickets fell - but, largely thanks to the captain Chris Read (133 not out), the Australian Adam Voges (80 and 68 not out) and a rain-ruined third day, Notts managed a draw. Kelsall scored 11 and 4 in his two innings, Turner 9 and 40.
