Stoke Wood in transition
This parcel of Stoke Wood, which lies east of the western main ride, was clear felled within the past year or so, so that the former overgrown ride through the forestry, seen here straight ahead past the remaining trees, is now an open path across the heath.
Prince's Coverts :: TQ1459
Prince's Coverts are 349 ha of coniferous and deciduous forestry owned by the Crown Estate, and located east of Oxshott village. The Coverts are named after Prince Leopold of Belgium, who lived at Claremont Park in Esher: the Claremont Estate was purchased by the Crown Estate on his marriage to Princess Charlotte.
The Coverts are open to the public, although visitors are expected to acquire a key for the gates, which are sometimes locked. A permit is also available (at some considerable cost) for horse riders.
