Old St.John's
Old St.John's
Ruins of the 14th century church of old St.John's at Boughton Green. A church may have been here since the 11th century, though the first documentary evidence dates from 1201, sited close to the sacred spring of St.John the Baptist which issues from just east of the chancel. The medieval village declined in the late 15th - early 16th centuries and the church became ruinous, though the tower and spire were still standing in 1773. The graveyard is overgrown, but still in use and the church ruins cared for by English Heritage
