An opulent design by J. Macvicar Anderson in 1889-90 for the Union Discount Company, predecessor of Union plc for whom this building and its neighbour were refurbished in 1975-79 (it is now a bank). Pink granite columns and pilasters, enriched friezes, large arched ground-floor windows and alternating pediments above. Grade II listed.
Behind is a bit of Hawksmoor's tower of St Michael.
