Trains passing at Blea Moor
The freight train, hauling timber, has been held at the signals on the approach to Ribblehead viaduct, waiting for the Carlisle bound passenger train to come off the single line across the viaduct. The timber is most likely being taken to Chirk near Wrexham. (My thanks to Ian Taylor for letting me know).

The Kronospan plant at Chirk manufactures timber products such as MDF and chipboard. There was a short lived experiment to convey timber from Aberystwyth to Chirk by rail, but it was soon abandoned.
