The Parish church of St John the Baptist consists of a chancel, north chapel, nave, north aisle, south porch, and west tower.

The chancel, nave, and tower date from late in the 13th century; the north chapel was added around the end of the 14th century.

It is believed that, Shakespeare's parents, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, were married here in 1557 (LinkExternal link ). It became well-known nationally after its controversial decision to demand the owners of a farmhouse next door paid £230,000 for repairs to the church.
