East Coast Fishing Disaster memorial, St. Abbs
Tiny bronze figures peer out to sea, waiting vainly for their men to return after the Great Storm of October 1881. A total of 189 lives were lost in Britain's worst ever fishing tragedy. Although known to history as the Eyemouth disaster, some of the men came from other east coast harbours such as Cove and Coldingham Shore (St. Abbs).
