Easter Aquhorthies Recumbent Stone Circle
Easter Aquhorthies Recumbent Stone Circle
Very common in Aberdeenshire, recumbent circles have one stone lying down (the recumbent), flanked by two uprights. The remaining stones forming the circle tend to be graded in size with the largest nearest the recumbent, and the smallest ones opposite. Thought to have been used as lunar calendars for farming purposes.
