The Hangs, Cley
The Hangs is a geological feature created when the ice began its retreat from the Cromer Ridge and outwash gravels were deposited in a sandur between between the ridge and ice front. This gravel spread is called the Kelling Sandur and extends from Muckleburgh Hill and Telegraph Hill southwards at a low gradient through the town of Holt and ends at Hunworth. Its eastern margin overlooks the Upper Glaven Valley in Edgefield Heath. Erosion of the northern edge has left Muckleburgh Hill as an outlier of the feature and has caused former ice-contact slopes to recede southwards from their original position north of Weybourne. Before this happened, a second sandur, the Salthouse Sandur, was laid down at a slightly lower elevation inland from Salthouse, extending from Bard Hill as far as the valley known as The Hangs.
